Assistant/Associate Professor – Plant pathology: Nematology

The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville invites applications to fill a 12-month, tenure track faculty position (80% research, 20% teaching) with an emphasis on translational research in nematology. The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville is a land-grant institution and the flagship university of the University of Arkansas System. 

Responsibilities: The successful candidate is expected to develop a robust, extramurally funded research program focusing on the development of holistic, integrated disease management strategies of nematodes that are important to Arkansas agriculture. Preferred areas of research specialization include, but are not limited to epidemiology, ecology, disease management or big data analytics.

The candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in grantsmanship, report research results in peer-reviewed publications, present research at national and regional meetings, and teach graduate and undergraduate level courses. The candidate will be expected to teach a graduate-level Nematology course and participate in team-taught courses such as Advanced Plant-Pathogen Interactions, Diseases of Economic Crops, and Seminar. The candidate also will be expected to advise and mentor graduate students, provide service to the department, college, university and state as appropriate for his/her expertise, and collaborate effectively with departmental research and extension faculty, and colleagues in related disciplines.

Preferred applicants will have experience in one or more aspects of nematode biology including the genetics and physiology of plant-nematode interactions, nematode population dynamics, resistance and control.

The incumbent will focus on nematodes of importance to Arkansas agriculture. However, research specialization is not limited to a specific commodity.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in plant pathology or a related field is required, as well as prior research experience in nematology. Postdoctoral or previous faculty experience in a land grant institution is strongly preferred. Strong communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to conduct independent and collaborative research are required. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated ability to work effectively across disciplines in plant pathology.
