University of Alabama at Birmingham

Dean of the Montgomery Regional Medical Campus

Montgomery, Alabama

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) welcomes applications and nominations for the Dean of the Montgomery Regional Medical Campus (MRMC). The Dean leads a vitally important pillar of the UAB School of Medicine, one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers. MRMC excels at its mission of improving primary care and community health in a region marked by a history of health disparities and, more recently, positive change in a city undergoing remarkable revitalization.

Reporting to the senior associate dean for medical education in the UAB School of Medicine and working in close partnership with executive leadership of partner health systems in Montgomery and Selma, the Dean leads the campus. The Dean plays a highly visible and influential role in improving the health of a broad swath of the state, in innovating medical education, and as representative to a community that prizes the campus and its impact on the region.

The campus was founded in the late 1960s to develop graduate medical education programs for the training of the next generation of physicians for the state and for providing high quality clinical care to patients in the River Region. Strong residency programs in Montgomery and Selma grew steadily. High-functioning partnerships with affiliated health systems and dedicated community physicians drove its success. In 2012, the UAB School of Medicine established the Montgomery Regional Medical Campus which expanded to include training for third- and fourth- year students.

UAB seeks a highly collaborative leader able to expand thriving relationships with all stakeholders. The next Dean will be a proven leader deeply committed to medical education, healthcare delivery, and the health of populations. The Dean will recruit and support a strong faculty and staff, sustain a high-quality and innovative approach to medical education, and will incentivize and nurture a culture of engagement and quality. They will further the school’s relationship with the community of Montgomery and the broader region through active involvement with a board of community leaders, elected officials, industry, and the public broadly.

UAB has retained the search firm Isaacson, Miller to assist in this recruitment.
