Senior Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations

WittKieffer has been retained by Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) to assist in their recruitment efforts for a Senior Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations.

Founded in 1903, Indiana University School of Medicine is the fourth medical school in the United States, after Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and Western Reserve. As the largest medical school in the United States, IUSM is a national leader in medical research and education. With more than 60 academic departments and specialty divisions across nine campuses statewide and strong clinical partnerships with IU Health, the state’s most comprehensive healthcare system, the school is continuously advancing its mission to prepare healers and transform health in Indiana and throughout the world.

Reporting directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Senior Associate Dean oversees fundraising for the most successful development program at Indiana University. The Office of Gift Development exists to secure philanthropic support necessary for IUSM to excel in its mission to teach, heal and discover. The Senior Associate Dean sets strategic direction for a comprehensive and coordinated development program that includes all aspects of fundraising, including alumni relations, annual fund, corporate and foundation giving, planned giving and major and principal gifts. The Senior Associate Dean also serves as the chief development officer for the school and manages the dean’s portfolio of donors capable of making transformative gifts. Collectively, these activities have resulted in the school securing nearly $625 million in philanthropic commitments as part of the ongoing Bicentennial campaign.

IUSM is seeking a dynamic and accomplished development executive with a strong track record of creating a philanthropic culture of collaboration, innovation and strategic growth. The Senior Associate Dean must be a visionary leader who understands the school’s priorities, partners with leadership to develop compelling giving opportunities, and can articulate these opportunities to donors in a meaningful and impactful manner. Candidates will possess exceptional leadership skills and be experienced at deploying fundraising staff and resources to align with and support the strategic priorities.

Indianapolis, and its surrounding communities, offers an outstanding quality of life. As a business friendly climate the "Indy" market is thriving economically with strong sectors of healthcare, manufacturing, distribution, retail and service.
