Job Description

The Department of English at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) invites applicants for six regular lecturer positions in rhetoric and composition to begin 1 July 2020. This is a non-tenure-track, continuing position in which faculty are eligible for promotion, and in which the predominant responsibility is teaching. We are seeking candidates with a demonstrated record in teaching excellence to teach first-year composition in the Core Writing Program, which offers a series of first-year courses designed to meet the needs of incoming students. All writing courses are supported by an independent, long-standing Writing Center. The Core Writing Program takes a rhetorical approach to writing and communicating, emphasizing writing in-context for specific purposes and audiences. The position carries a 4/4 teaching load, though there may be course release opportunities for academic advisement, assessment, curriculum development, or other administrative duties. Required Qualifications

Candidates must possess teaching experience at the college level, and have an M.A. or higher degree in English, with a focus on Rhetoric and Composition, by 15 August 2020. Successful candidates will have an excellent record of teaching writing, and must demonstrate an ability to support the university’s commitment to inclusiveness.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Applicants who possess experience working with and teaching diverse groups of students, and who provide evidence of a commitment to a broad involvement with diversity work on campus will be preferred.

Department Information

The Department of English has well over 400 majors and minors, with an increasingly diverse population of students studying writing, literature and linguistics. Our faculty teach a wide range of courses which draw upon a multitude of critical, rhetorical and linguistic perspectives.
