The John V. Roach Honors College at Texas Christian University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Game Studies position in the College’s core interdisciplinary faculty beginning August 2020.
The John V. Roach Honors College, in collaboration with academic units across the University, provides intellectually enriching curricular and co-curricular programs to 1260 students (13% of the undergraduate population). With this new hire, the College’s core faculty will include eight permanent positions. The successful candidate will have resources to establish a game space within the Honors College (to complement the new Fab Lab, a digital fabrication laboratory in the TCU library) and will be a welcomed member of the game studies faculty community at TCU and across the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. With regard to tenure and promotion, Honors College tenure-track faculty members are reviewed annually during the probationary period by the faculty member’s individual review committee, a Dean-appointed committee chaired by the Honors College Associate Dean and staffed by Honors and non-Honors colleagues whose scholarly and teaching interests match or complement those of the faculty member under review.
The John V. Roach Honors College seeks a first-rate teacher and scholar: a creative educator who uses game studies as a vehicle for innovative pedagogy, a scholar of games and gaming with a significant, ongoing research agenda, and a colleague whose teaching and scholarship embody fundamental commitments to diversity and inclusion. Though a Ph.D. or graduate certificate in game studies is preferred, we are open to applicants from any discipline who are developing courses and producing scholarship in game studies. In addition, we seek a collaborative and ambitious colleague who will enrich the College’s contributions to our students and to the TCU community while also elevating the national profile of the John V. Roach Honors College.
- Doctoral degree (awarded no later than August 2020)
- Active research agenda in the field of game studies (defined broadly as the interpretation, criticism, or science of digital games)
- Substantive engagement (as teacher, scholar, or both) with issues of race, class, gender, sexuality, nationality, or ethnicity
- Demonstrated achievement as a creative and reflective teacher
- Doctorate or graduate certificate in game studies
- Published scholarly work in game studies
- Honors teaching experience (or equivalent)
- Experience in course development, curriculum development, or the development of co-curricular programs
