Position Description

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking an innovative leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.  Research activities in the Department encompass all major areas of chemistry and biochemistry, and faculty receive extramural funding from federal and state programs, private foundations and industry. The successful candidate is expected to be an active leader and researcher with a strong vision for developing and strengthening educational and research initiatives.  Applicants must have a distinguished scientific record, demonstrated leadership skills, and a commitment to the education and mentorship of students and faculty. Candidates should have relevant administrative experience and an understanding of issues affecting faculty recruitment, promotion, and retention. The Department is especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent management skills
  • Distinguished record of research and teaching
  • Current academic rank of tenured associate or full professor (or equivalent non-US rank)

Hiring decisions are subject to final budget approval.
