Assistant Professor - Computer Science

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions starting in fall 2020. Candidates with expertise in all computing-related areas are welcome to apply. The search will give special consideration to applicants who have a research focus in the areas of Computer Systems, Data Science, and Cybersecurity expertise. Candidates are expected to have a record of high-quality scholarship and should be able to demonstrate the potential for excellence in research and teaching. The department values both interdisciplinary research and industry/government experience. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in Computer Science or a closely related field by the time they are hired, and demonstrate excellence in both research and teaching. All candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills, have the ability to establish an active research program, and show a willingness to support the student-oriented culture of the department and the university.

 ABOUT THE COLLEGE AND DEPARTMENT: UTEP’s Computer Science (CS) department resides in the College of Engineering. Student research is key to the College of Engineering experience. Our highly-trained graduates are heavily recruited by the industry's leading companies and top government agencies. The college is consistently ranked among the top schools in the continental U.S. in awarding bachelor degrees to Hispanics.

The CS undergraduate program has been accredited by ABET’s Computing Accreditation Commission since 1986. The CS faculty (https://www.utep.edu/cs/people/) has an internationally distinguished record of research and national leadership in professional organizations. The department offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, as well as M.S. degrees in Software Engineering and Information Technology. The undergraduate program has concentrations in software engineering, cybersecurity, and data analytics. UTEP is an NSA Academic Center of Excellence in Cyber Operations and Cyber Defense, and it leads the NSF-supported INCLUDES Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (CAHSI), a national network of Hispanic-Serving Institutions and organizations from the public and private sectors committed to Hispanic and female student recruitment, retention, and advancement in computing.

Southwest University Park, located a mile away in lively downtown El Paso, is home to the El Paso Chihuahuas, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, and the El Paso Locomotive, a professional soccer team founded in 2019.

SALARY:  Based upon rank and experience.
