In addition to traditional studies in music theory and history, students study with renowned faculty through private lessons, participate in percussion ensembles, chamber groups and large ensembles, and prepare for solo recital performances. Within each degree program, there is latitude for students to specialize while obtaining a comprehensive knowledge of the percussion area. Percussion students have the opportunity to play in the ASU Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia, Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Concert Band, the Sun Devil Marching Band, the Musical Theatre and Opera production ensembles, Concert Jazz Band, Jazz Repertory Band, and Latin Jazz Band. There are also numerous small ensembles including the Contemporary Percussion Ensemble, Arizona Pan Devils Steel Band, World Drum Ensemble, Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME), Latin Marimba Ensemble, Gamelan, and many jazz combos. For advanced players, there are numerous playing opportunities off-campus including theatrical productions, local and touring artist productions and community orchestras.
