Software Developer, Web Site and User Interface
The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Software Developer or a Senior Software Developer for the Nevada Seismological Laboratory Website (NSL) for its website user interface. This is a full-time, non-tenured, administrative position and reports to the Manager of the Nevada Seismological Laboratory's Data Center Manager. The main responsibilities of this position are to build, maintain, and improve new and existing websites for projects and systems at NSL. These sites include information portals, dashboards, and command-control tools for both the public and internal use of the lab. The incumbent will work with lab and external teams to coordinate access to data and control systems from various APls to create vital user interfaces for lab personnel, third-party collaborators, and the general public. This involves working with existing website tools, as well as building new web Uls from scratch to meet custom specifications. Secondarily, this position will collaborate with colleagues to provide assistance in other technical areas of lab operations, including data acquisition systems, systems administration, systems analysis, and networking.
Software Developer, Comp Grade B:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of related work experience or Master's degree and one (1) year of related work experience.
Related Experience - programming and scripting, reading and writing time-series data to/from a relational database & parsing of log or other data files to extract needed information.
Senior Software Developer, Comp Grade C:
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of related professional work experience or Master's degree in two (2) years of related professional work experience.
Related Experience - Proficiency programming/scripting to perform: Reading and writing time-series data to/from a relational database & parsing of log or other data files to extract needed information
Certification and Licensure:
NV driver’s license
Schedule or Travel Requirements:
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
Occasional travel may be required

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory is a research division within the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno. The Laboratory has overall responsibility for instrumental studies of earthquakes in the Nevada region. The laboratory operates a statewide network of seismographic stations and investigates the sizes, frequencies of occurrence, and distribution of earthquakes in the region, and other problems related to seismic risk in Nevada.The Laboratory disseminates seismic information to the public and regularly publishes research results. It serves as a data repository and a resource for the public on matters related to earthquake activity and earthquake risks in Nevada and adjoining states. The laboratory also handles grant- and contract-supported research on seismic problems of national and international importance, and interacts closely with the University of Nevada Reno Department of Geological Sciences and Engineering to prepare well-educated professionals for careers in seismology.
