Description

The Provost of Hope College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Director of College Writing at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor beginning July 1, 2020.

The Director of College Writing will design, oversee, administer, and assess a sequentially structured writing program in which all students participate.  The writing program will ensure the growth of student writing skills across all four years of the undergraduate curriculum. Among other principal duties, the Director will serve as Course Director for the first-year writing course, guide academic units as they design strategies for writing in the disciplines, provide faculty development opportunities through initiatives that incorporate proven practices for writing-intensive courses, and work with units to develop writing assessment plans that are both effective and sustainable.

Under the supervision of the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, the Director of College Writing works in collaboration with the Director of General Education, the Director of the Klooster Center for Excellence in Writing (who will report to the Director of College Writing), the Chair of the English Department, the Director of Assessment and Accreditation, and the academic divisional and library deans to provide leadership, oversight, and support in matters related to student writing.  The Director of College Writing will hold a tenure-track appointment in the Department of English. Teaching responsibilities include two writing-intensive general education courses per academic year. Time until tenure application is negotiable depending on experience, academic rank, tenure status, and time in current position.

Qualifications

A PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or a closely related field.  Documented effective supervision of writing programs/centers/WAC, or WID programs.  Academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor at a fully accredited institution strongly preferred.
