Associate University Librarian, Content Discovery

The University of Northern Iowa's Rod Library seeks a collaborative, visionary individual who is service oriented as its new Associate University Librarian, Content Discovery. The person in this position will provide leadership and strategic direction for the library's Content Discovery Division, one of three library divisions. The Content Discovery Division includes Access Services (including Interlibrary Loan), Cataloging and Metadata, Digital Scholarship, and Resource Management (Acquisitions, Collection Development and Assessment). The division contains a total of 24 faculty and staff. The Associate University Librarian, Content Discovery reports to the Dean of Library Services.

This is a full-time tenure eligible administrative faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The successful candidate's record must demonstrate professional accomplishments which will warrant this appointment. This position will be responsible for setting the vision and strategic direction and providing leadership for the Content Discovery Division; supervising and supporting unit coordinators, other faculty, and professional & scientific staff in the division; fostering an environment of collegiality, respect, trust, and teamwork that enables library faculty and staff to contribute to the goals of the organization; monitoring and evaluating trends and developments relevant to academic libraries in the areas of collection development and assessment, digital scholarship, electronic resource management, metadata development, and resource sharing; building productive relationships with internal and external partners; serving as a member of the library's Executive Management Team, sharing responsibilities for decision making, resource management, strategic direction, and policy development, and serving as a member of the Dean's Advisory Group, a broader communication and discussion body for library-wide initiatives and issues; and engaging in research, scholarship, and creative work.

ALA-accredited Master's degree in library or information science or international equivalent required.

Required qualifications include increasing responsibilities in positions relating to collection, technical, digital scholarship, or access services; at least three years of experience managing or supervising librarians and/or staff in an academic library; evidence of competence in strategic planning and project management in a rapidly changing environment; demonstrated skills in leadership, oral and written communication, and creative problem solving; demonstrated ability to foster an environment of collegiality, respect, trust, and teamwork; and record suitable for appointment at the Associate Professor rank or higher.

Preferred qualifications include demonstrated knowledge and understanding of trends in collection development and assessment, digital scholarship initiatives, electronic resource management, metadata development, or resource sharing; experience in effectively implementing new technologies to improve workflow and services; experience with assessment and data-informed decision making; and demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
