Dean, College of Education

The University of Northern Iowa's College of Education is seeking applications for the Dean position. This position provides leadership to advance an innovative and forward-looking vision of the College of Education and works with the Educator Preparation program across the UNI campus. This position is responsible for all aspects of administration of the College of Education i.e. developing strong collaborative relationships within the college, the University, and the external community that advance student learning and success; advancing the College’s central role in the strategic goals of the University; creating and maintaining an inclusive and diverse environment; overseeing hiring, promotion, and evaluation of COE faculty; fostering the professional growth and development of all COE department heads, directors, and staff; facilitating the integration of appropriate and emerging technology; working in partnership with the University’s academic leadership; coordinating the fundraising efforts in conjunction with the UNI Foundation; and serving on the Deans Council and the Academic Affairs Council.

Successful candidates with background and interest in these areas will form clusters to advance our work, joining current faculty conducting teaching, scholarship, and service in these areas.

Education requirements include an earned doctorate in a discipline appropriate to the College and a demonstrated record of effective teaching, scholarship and professional activity that would merit appointment with tenure at the rank of full professor within one of the departments in the College; demonstrated successful administrative experience in the following areas: budgetary planning and fiscal management; hiring and recruiting of faculty; educator preparation in formal and informal settings; faculty development; participatory decision-making; diversity; attracting and generating external sources of funding; working with accrediting agencies; and working in a collective bargaining environment.

Preferred experience includes experience in preK-12 teaching or school/district leadership; experience building and leading a diverse faculty and staff; experience developing and leading an innovative vision for 21st century teacher education that advances the whole student; and experience leading academic and administrative quality improvement initiatives.
