The Search

Northern Kentucky University (NKU) seeks an experienced and innovative leader to serve as its next Dean of the College of Education (“dean”). The dean will join NKU as it begins its next 50 years in providing outstanding education and services to the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati region. With the excitement of the newly developed, three-year strategic framework, Success by Design, and the spring 2019 launch of a comprehensive fundraising campaign, the institution is poised to deliver on its long-standing commitment to student success, inclusive excellence, and regional engagement while generating impactful scholarly and creative endeavors.

An innovative and entrepreneurial state university located in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati metropolitan area, NKU is committed to instilling a passion in its students that will lead them to fulfilling careers, community engagement, and meaningful lives. This commitment has been a driving force as the university has expanded academic offerings and advanced new opportunities for experiential learning for students. The NKU community can look back at the past decade with pride at the founding of two new colleges, the construction of several new buildings on campus, including the state-of-the-art Health Innovation Center, and a successful transition to Division I athletics.

NKU seeks a strategic and visionary leader who will broadly focus on the aspiration of the newly restructured College of Education (COE) to be known throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the region-at-large as the leader in providing opportunities for engaged learning and applied scholarship that fosters individual growth and collective success. For many, an NKU education changes lives, and graduates of the COE will as well.

The COE currently prepares over 900 students. With 35 full-time and 14 part-time faculty, education is personalized in small classes. The new dean will benefit from an established, collaborative team of staff and faculty already in place. The college is CAEP-accredited and offers five bachelor’s degrees, including several endorsements and certifications. Four master’s degrees are offered in addition to the doctoral program in education leadership, the first doctoral program offered at NKU. COE faculty are uniquely active in pursuing research that informs teaching and practice. As NKU and the COE are integrated into the region and partner extensively with the community, they look to create additional pathways of support in the region, ever expanding regional engagement to the PK-12 educational environment and the Cincinnati public school systems.

NKU has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in this search. Review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
