Lead Teacher – Child Development Center

Chemeketa Community College welcomes applications for a full-time Lead Teacher in our Child Development Center.

 

Position Summary

 

The lead teacher at the Child Development Center provides and models a developmentally appropriate child care program which includes lesson planning, guiding children and preparing the environment. This position ensures all aspects of classroom teaching align with Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program's constructivist coursework and philosophy. Works with ECE faculty to provide information, feedback, and support to practicum students, families and other staff in a manner that contributes to an inclusive environment in which diverse points of view are respected.

Requirements

 

The successful candidate will have:


Associate degree from an accredited institution in early childhood education, human development, or a closely related field
-AND-
One year of experience in paid positions working with young children and families
-AND-
Food handlers and first aid certifications (or ability to obtain these certifications prior to beginning work)



Core Competencies:

  • Knowledge of child development
  • Ability to implement a developmentally appropriate constructivist approach
  • Ability to communicate in an empathetic manner that respects and values diverse points of view of children, parents and college students
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with families, staff and college faculty


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Two or more years of classroom teaching experience with children ages 0-5 years
  • Reflects the cultural and language background of the community college students served in the ECE program
  • Experience with college lab school or practicum as a staff member or student
  • Experience working or learning with people from a variety of cultural, social, economic, and educational backgrounds
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited institution in early childhood education, human development, or a closely related field
