Position Summary:
The Disability Resources office collaborates with the university community to increase awareness, remove barriers, and promote an inclusive environment for students with disabilities. The Director will provide overall leadership and management of Disability Resources, including Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, and University Coaching and Academic Mentoring and is responsible for identifying the need for, envisioning, developing, and implementing programs, policies, and systems that will allow members of the university community to enjoy equal access in all educational opportunities, programs and services. This position acts as the liaison with administrators, faculty, and professional staff to ensure Southern Oregon University is in compliance with all disability-related policies, regulations, and legislation, and is fulfilling its mission as an inclusive campus. This position reports directly to the University Registrar and serves as a key member of the senior leadership team in the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Rehabilitation Counseling, Education, Psychology or a related field. • Five years related professional experience working with students with a variety of disabilities in a postsecondary setting and assisting students with disabilities in the process of conflict resolution and academic concerns. • Thorough knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973: the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974: and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended; the Fair Housing Act, and how they apply to postsecondary settings. • Experience leading collaborative projects and applying expertise to complex programs and/or administrative specialties. • Experience in delivering presentations and conducting and evaluating training for a variety of group sizes, purposes, and ability levels. • Experiencing in creating and managing budgets • Experience in managing personnel, including selection, training, staff development, and termination processes


Preferred Qualification:
• Earned doctorate in a relevant discipline • Strong curriculum development and assessment skills • Knowledge of Oregon-specific disability laws

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong problem solving skills and the ability to make recommendations and justifications based on sound research; applicable laws, policies, and procedures; and input from appropriate stakeholders.
• Demonstrable initiative and ability to multi-task and perform work in various situations, where diverse demands are involved; ability to organize and plan work and projects including handling multiple priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for the organizational unit.
• Familiarity with technology issues and trends relevant to higher education; experience evaluating information technology products and services.
• Thorough knowledge of assistive technologies, information and instructional material accessibility issues.
• Knowledge of and experience in evaluating psycho-educational evaluations, approving reasonable academic accommodations and services at the post-secondary level.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work with a high level of productivity and accuracy/attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
• Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism to effectively handle a broad range of sensitive interpersonal situations.
• Commitment and ability to providing students with the information, skills, confidence, and assistance necessary to complete a post-secondary education.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, online systems, social media platforms, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
• Ability to adapt to and work effectively in a heavily bureaucratic environment which requires regular interaction with a number of levels within the organization.
• Working knowledge, or ability to quickly learn, university infrastructure, policies and procedures.

•Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
•Must be able to work additional hours and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
•Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
