ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO

We are The University of Toledo, a student-centered, public metropolitan research university with picturesque campuses recognized nationally for their beauty. Founded in 1872, The University of Toledo (UT) (www.utoledo.edu) is one of 14 state universities in Ohio with an enrollment of approximately 16,000 undergraduate and 4,500 graduate/professional students. Approximately 20 percent of students reside on campus, and most of the remaining 80 percent live within 3-1/2 miles of campus. The University of Toledo and the Medical University of Ohio merged in July 2006 to form the third-largest public university operating budget in the state. The University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is classified as a Carnegie high research-active university.

The University offers more than 150 doctoral, professional, graduate and undergraduate programs. UT is just one of 20 public U.S. universities that offer programs in the following seven professional fields: business, education, engineering, law, medicine, nursing and pharmacy. The University consists of twelve academic colleges and a medical hospital. There are six campus locations: the Bancroft Campus (the main campus location), The Toledo Museum of Art Campus and Center for the Visual Arts, the Scott Park Campus, the Health Science Campus, the Lake Erie Center and Stranahan Arboretum. UT has invested more than $300 million in capital projects to renovate, rebuild and revitalize university facilities across all campuses. With approximately 7,000 employees and an institutional budget exceeding $900 million annually, The University plays a central role in economic development in northwest Ohio.

Some of our nationally ranked programs include business, engineering, law, and occupational therapy.

MAIN CAMPUS FEATURES:

The University of Toledo hosts nine modern residence halls, a gothic bell tower, a Student Recreation Center, a state-of-the-art classroom center in our Memorial Field House which opened in fall 2008, on campus football stadium, newly renovated Savage Hall basketball and athletic complex.

Health Science Campus is home to graduate health programs and the University of Toledo Medical Center.  The UT Medical Center is a Level 1 trauma center, offering innovative treatments for strokes and cancer found nowhere else in the state. The Medical Center also features the new $5.8-million Orthopedics Center.

At The University of Toledo, we have researchers working at all levels — from undergraduates to faculty — toward our mission of improving the human condition. In fact, their combined, efforts have led to 125 patents and nearly $60 million in funding and grants. Whether your interest is diabetes, performance management, bio-fuels, or Shakespeare, we welcome you to join us in research.

And our campuses are quite the happening (and fun) places to be — with over 400 student organizations, art exhibits, theater performances, athletic games, and renowned speakers such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr and Toni Morrison.

At The University of Toledo, we are proud Rockets (our nickname), we love our gold and blue (our school colors), and we invite you to visit campus to experience it for yourself.  The University competes in the Mid-American Conference and experiences great success on and off the field.  In the classroom, UT has produced overall department grade-point averages above a 3.2 in each of the past seven semesters, and above a 3.1 in the past 19 consecutive semesters. In the 2017 fall semester, UT student-athletes achieved a record GPA of 3.290.

THE TOLEDO REGION:

Toledo is a city in Lucas County in northwest Ohio, at the western end of Lake Erie bordering the state of Michigan.  For generations, people have recognized the rare combination of opportunity and beauty in the Toledo Region and made the decision to create deep, lasting roots here. They realize it matters where you make your life, where you make your career and where you make your home.

From the world-class art museum to catching a minor league hockey game, Downtown Toledo is the heart and soul of a resurging region. The streets are alive. New companies, investments and jobs are flowing in. The offices, the sidewalks, the shops and restaurants are thriving. It’s an energy you can feel. The city has a hum, a pulse, a vibe and a cosmopolitan character all its own. Our people are re-energizing the downtown, and they’re going places. Enjoying the Maumee River. Taking in a ballgame. Going to a gallery. Loving the nightlife.

The city of Toledo’s growth was recognized with a 2018 Governor’s Cup Award from Site Selection Magazine.  The magazine has ranked Toledo third in the nation for economic development among mid-sized cities for the last two years.  The population of Toledo is 280,000, making it the 71st-largest city in the United States. The Toledo metropolitan area had a 2014 population of 651,500. It is one of the most populous cities in Ohio after Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati and Akron. The 2016 cost of living index is 92.7, less than the US average of 100. The city’s glass industry has earned it the nickname, “The Glass City”.
