POSITION OBJECTIVE

The mission of the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women at Case Western Reserve University is to support and empower women and promote gender equity through education, advocacy, and leadership. The center director provides overall leadership and administration of the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, including staff and student supervision, resource management, university leadership in matters pertaining to women, and creation and oversight of programs related to women and gender issues. The director advises university partners regarding policies related to women and gender issues. The director also collaborates with schools and other university units, alumnae, donors, the Community Advisory Board (CAB), and the community. The director conducts and oversees community outreach and engages in ongoing development efforts to secure individual, grant, and endowment funding. The director is responsible for maintaining a work environment that is respectful and provides open communication, innovation and teamwork.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Provide strategic leadership and planning in women and gender issues within the university. (10%)
  2. Collaborate with university leaders to improve the climate for women faculty, staff and students at the university. (10%)
  3. Supervise, manage and help plan the programs and functions of the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, including but not limited to the biannual Women of Achievement luncheon, faculty and staff leadership programming, and programs for undergraduate and graduate students. (20%)
  4. Collaborate with schools and offices across campus to formulate policies and programs to benefit women, and promote research and curriculum development related to women and gender issues, including but not limited to, all schools (Engineering, Law, Medicine, Social Work, Management, Nursing, Dental Medicine, Arts & Sciences), Post-Graduate Planning and Experiential Learning, Student Affairs, University Health Services, University Counseling Services, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the LGBT Center, the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities, the Office of Inclusion, Diversity and Equal Opportunity, and Office of the Provost. (15%)
  5. Recruit, hire, and supervise professional staff and student interns. (10%)
  6. Engage in fund development and public relations through strategic networks with CWRU alumnae, community and professional advocates and national leaders. (10%)

 

 

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Collaborate and plan with the Center's Community Advisory Board in support and the advancement of the Center's mission. (5%)
  2. Administer the Center budget. (Staff: 5%)
  3. Represent women's interests and the Center in University committees and task forces. (5%)
  4. Oversee the creation and distribution of publications, including the e-newsletter, annual reports, brochures, and other products as needed. (5%)
  5. Oversee the Center's website and social media presence. (5%)

 

CONTACTS

Department: Daily contact with center staff for supervision and programming.

University: Frequent contact with university officers. Frequent contact with staff and faculty throughout the university. For collaboration and promotion of the center’s mission

External: Frequent contact with members of the Center's Community Advisory Board and community partners. Regular contact with CWRU alumnae and supporters in the community for center’s mission and fundraising.

Students: Frequent contact with students providing support.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Responsible for supervision of the Center's professional staff as well as graduate and undergraduate student interns

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 8 years progressive experience in higher education or not for profit administration and 3 years successful experience with budgets and supervision of staff.

Education: Doctorate or terminal degree preferred, Master’s Degree in appropriate discipline (such as, college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling, non-profit administration) required.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  1. Demonstrated interdisciplinary background in the study of gender/ethnicity/race and class
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to women, gender and intersectionality, including the intersection of differences among women with regard to race, ethnicity, dis/ability, sexuality, nationality, age, social class and other categories of identity.
  3. Demonstrated respect for and acceptance of diversity, including different approaches to and definitions for feminism, cross-culturally.
  4. Demonstrated experience in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly college students, to help them advance and resolve gender-related issues
  5. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  6. Experience directing an academic women's center is a plus
  7. Knowledge and experience with the issues of women students and faculty in STEM fields are a plus.
  8. Must be able to make sound, autonomous decisions.
  9. Must be able to manage multiple priorities.
  10. Must be able to work independently most of the time and in intense collaboration with others when needed.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to handle the fast pace of the office with multiple responsibilities. Must be willing and able to have a flexible schedule and work nights and weekends.
