Franklin & Marshall College (F&M) invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost and Dean of the Faculty.

Founded in 1787, Franklin & Marshall is a highly selective private liberal arts college that prizes its strong campus community centered on small classes and faculty-student research. It is located in Lancaster, PA, a diverse and progressive metropolitan area with a lively arts culture, historic downtown, and easy access to Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York City, and Washington, DC. The College’s mission is to help students develop their greatness – including their intellectual, creative, and leadership talents -- so that they may live fulfilling lives and contribute meaningfully to their occupations, their communities, and their world. F&M is proud of its rigorous academic program; of its nationally recognized talent strategy to build a dynamic, diverse student body; of its faculty-led College House system, which blends residential community, intellectual exploration and student self-governance; and of its vibrant student athlete experience. F&M faculty are exceptional teachers and active scholars and boast numerous achievements in knowledge creation. The College enrolls about 2,400 students from throughout the U.S. and around the world. Its operating budget for fiscal year 2019 is $127 million, and its total endowment is valued at $391 million.

Reporting directly to President Barbara Altmann, and with 15 direct reports, the next Provost and Dean of the Faculty at Franklin & Marshall will be a key member of the senior leadership team and serve as the College’s Chief Academic Officer. They will work closely with the faculty, academic staff, two Associate Deans, and other community members to advance the academic mission of the College. Among the top priorities for the next Provost and Dean of Faculty are: advancing initiatives to attract, develop and retain highly talented faculty with diverse backgrounds; supporting faculty governance in creating sustainable curricular change; garnering resources in support of academic innovation and research; and working with campus leaders and other members of the community to ensure that academic initiatives align with the overall strategic vision for the College.

The next Provost and Dean of the Faculty will be an innovative thinker who is able to identify and capitalize on opportunities to advance the academic mission of the College. The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader with a pragmatic approach to change management, as well as an accomplished scholar and teacher, with a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and the liberal arts.
