Instructor/Assistant Professor Automotive Technology Business

Announcement is hereby made for a 10-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning in the fall 2019 semester on the Ammerman Campus in Selden. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.

 

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.

 

Job Description

The Department of Automotive Technology is seeking a qualified faculty member for its growing automotive program, which currently supports four different technical programs: General Motors ASEP, Toyota T-Ten, Honda Pact and a General Automotive track. With the addition of a new Automotive Business A.A.S. Degree and Professional Certificate option, we are seeking a full-time faculty member to instruct courses in the areas of automotive business management, sales, finance and fixed operations.

 

Our automotive program requires continual professional development and growth, which will include attending additional factory training and self-study.  Conference attendance and course development is also required by our corporate partners. The successful candidate will be required to complete some of this manufacturer training outside of normal work hours to gain and maintain certification levels.  At times, this training will require College-supported travel, resulting in single or multiple overnight stays, possibly out of state. 

 

The candidate must also engage in coordinating student activities and attending various College functions.  The College seeks faculty who value the opportunity to form mentoring and advising relationships with our students.  The successful candidate will demonstrate an ongoing commitment to excellence in teaching and to professional development.  Duties will include:

 

  • Teaches assigned courses in accordance with description published in the College catalog and the approved course outline.
  • Incorporates an appreciation of diverse lifestyles, cultures and perspectives into courses.
  • Engages in assessment of college-wide learning outcomes and demonstrates the use of the results of these assessments in courses.
  • Actively participates in departmental, campus and College committees/meetings.
  • Academic advisement and curriculum development.
  • Demonstration of professional development/scholarly work in the discipline.

 

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor’s degree plus five years of automotive, transportation or closely related work experience.

 

Preferred:

Bachelor’s in Automotive, or closely related field and prior corporate training preferred.  There is a strong preference that the successful candidate will have extensive automotive dealership or transportation management experience. ASE certification, as well as manufacturer credentials. Prior teaching, specifically at the post-secondary level.
