National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities

The National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) seeks a collaborative, persuasive, and forward-thinking President to be a respected advocate and thought-leader for independent higher education within the larger, complex landscape of higher education. The new president will be expected to build upon the extraordinary leadership and legacy of David Warren, who has served as NAICU's president for 25 years.

With more than 1,000 colleges, universities, and associations as members, NAICU is a unifying national voice for independent higher education and reflects the diversity of private, nonprofit higher education in the United States. Based in Washington, D.C., NAICU is the largest organization representing the leaders of independent, nonprofit colleges and universities on federal issues, including those affecting student aid, tax policy, and government regulation.

The new president must possess a clear vision for the future of independent higher education and have an understanding and appreciation of the challenges, opportunities, and public policy issues facing members of the association. The president will ensure strong working relationships across the membership, including its Board, committees, and affiliated associations, as well as with other higher education organizations. The president will lead an accomplished staff of twenty people and demonstrate a commitment to good governance, financial oversight, and management practices that foster effectiveness, engagement, and inclusivity. The president will also be able to lead with authenticity, resilience, integrity, and high energy and inspire the confidence of NAICU peers and staff within the higher education community. Individuals with records of active engagement in the work of NAICU and/or independent higher education are encouraged to apply.

Nominations, applications, and inquiries may be sent in complete confidence. Applications must include a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names and full contact information of five references (who will not be contacted without permission). All materials must be submitted electronically to NAICUPresident@academic-search.com. Full consideration will be given to applications received by January 14, 2019.

You may schedule a confidential conversation by contacting one of the consultants assisting in the search: Ann Die Hasselmo (Ann.Hasselmo@academic-search.com) or Jay Lemons (Jay@academic-search.com).
