Reports to: Michael Sizer (Chair of Humanistic Studies) 

Description: The Department of Humanistic Studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for a full-time continuing faculty appointment, beginning August 1, 2019, in any humanities or social science discipline. Candidates are required to have expertise in gender, sexuality, and queer studies, including western and non-western theories of gender and sexuality, and an interdisciplinary and/or transnational approach. This hire is part of an initiative to diversify and internationalize departmental strengths in intersectional approaches to scholarship and pedagogy. We would welcome applicants who have experience in community engagement and community-based teaching and research. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in their specialty as well as core courses in the Department of Humanistic Studies. 

The faculty position will teach eighteen credits per year (three courses per semester) at a professional art and design college internationally known for its dedication to excellence in teaching and its rigorous liberal arts curriculum. The interdisciplinary nature of the Department and College requires that faculty meaningfully contribute to all aspects of departmental operations and institutional governance including advising, institutional and departmental committee service, and scheduled departmental and student activities during the school year. Full-time faculty are expected to pursue research and/or professional engagements that contribute to the educational mission of the Department and College. 

Requirements: 

• Ph.D. by August 1, 2019; 

• Minimum 1 year of full-time teaching experience (at the college-level beyond graduate assistantships is preferred). 

• Ability to teach courses to a multi-lingual, multi-cultural student body. 

• Record of research or professional engagement commensurate with experience. 

• Candidate must successfully complete a full background check. 

 

Valued, but not required: 

• 3 years of full-time teaching experience (at the college-level beyond graduate assistantships is preferred).
