Dean of the College of Science

Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the dean of the College of Science.

IIT is a medium-sized, independent, non-sectarian, coeducational urban university emphasizing education for the professions, research, and scholarship. Its academic programs are organized into eight colleges, institutes and schools: Chicago-Kent College of Law, Armour College of Engineering, the College of Architecture, Lewis College of Human Sciences, the College of Science, the Institute of Design, the School of Applied Technology, and Stuart School of Business. As a student in Chicago, students have access to a thriving metropolis with a rich cultural history.

The IIT College of Science has the second-largest student body at IIT enrolling over 500 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students. The College of Science hosts five unique departments: applied mathematics, biology, chemistry, computer science, and physics; as well as four research centers: the Center for Accelerator and Particle Physics, the Center for Synchrotron Radiation Research and Instrumentation, the International Center for Sensor Science and Engineering, and the Active Computational Thinking Research Center. The College offers undergraduate, co-terminal, masters, and doctoral degrees, professional masters, and certificate programs. Of the College's 106 total faculty, 69 are tenure or tenure track and 37 are full-time teaching faculty.

The IIT College of Science seeks a visionary, dynamic and decisive leader to build upon the College's current success and initiatives already underway and to set priorities to guide its future. Leveraging the unique aspects of the university and larger community of Chicago will be critical to success. Recognizing the College's many strengths and opportunities, the dean will have an aspirational vision for all that can be accomplished. The new dean will further strengthen the College and contribute to an institution that is fueled by excellence and impact. Fostering a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship, the dean will work with faculty to envision the ongoing growth and development of educational and research programs that advance the individual departments and the College as a whole. The dean will support and demonstrate strong respect for the entire spectrum of research and have the ability to leverage the talents and expertise of its faculty within the College and throughout the institution through collaborative, interdisciplinary research and programming.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will, at minimum, possess a terminal degree, and have a distinguished record of teaching and scholarly or research accomplishments commensurate with an appointment at the rank of full professor. In addition to a record of academic and professional accomplishments, the successful candidate will have demonstrated commitment to scientific research and outstanding scholarly and scientific credentials.
