Dean, College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture

The University of Hartford invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA). The next Dean will have the opportunity to further expand a thriving College and sharpen its strategic focus by capitalizing on its current strengths and identifying new areas of potential synergy and innovation.

Now in its sixth decade, the University has emerged as a vibrant and dynamic force in higher education and finds itself at an important moment in its history as a private institution. The University has built a reputation for an innovative integration of liberal arts education and professional studies; service to and partnership with local, regional, national, and global communities; and high standards of scholarly and creative excellence.

In keeping with the College’s and the University’s commitment to upholding a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community for all its members, and to promote the advancement of STEM careers among women and minorities, individuals from underrepresented communities are especially encouraged to apply.

The next Dean will provide creative vision and leadership for the College while also serving as a leader across the University, throughout the city and region, and on the national and global stage. The Dean will create collaborative opportunities on behalf of the College, both internally and externally, in order to engage students, faculty, and partners in industry to further the educational mission of the College and ensure its continued positive momentum and growth.

The Dean will report to Provost Fred Sweitzer and serve as a collaborative and creative colleague on the Provost’s Council of Deans, working together to advance the strategic objectives of the University as a whole. The Dean will oversee a College comprising approximately 54 full-time and 60 part-time faculty, 939 undergraduate and 117 graduate students, and 12 full-time staff.

The Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture may come from either academia or the world of practice, but must move easily and fluently between them. They should hold an advanced degree in a field relevant to CETA’s mission. If an academic, the Dean would ideally be appointable as full professor at University of Hartford. If an industry professional, the Dean should have a nuanced understanding of how to promote, foster, and develop research and teaching in an academic setting.
