Teachers College at Columbia University

Vice President of Academic Affairs, Provost and Dean

New York, New York

Teachers College at Columbia University, the first and largest graduate school of education in the country, seeks a strategic Vice President of Academic Affairs, Provost and Dean (Provost) to partner in sustaining the College’s vital work and shaping its academic enterprise. This individual will join an institution with a history of profound impact in the world through cutting-edge research and practice, and with a deep commitment to social justice. Teachers College seeks a Provost who will build on the institution’s proud legacy and broad reach, and ensure that its academic programs and people continue to lead in their fields.

Teachers College is home to a deeply engaged and intellectually stimulating group of masters and doctoral students in diverse fields that span education, health, and psychology. Nearly half of its 5,000 students identify as students of color, and over a fifth of students come from countries other than the United States. Serious and impassioned, the students are committed learners and future oriented, looking to build careers in close alignment with the vision of the College. They are supported by over 1,000 staff and 180 full-time faculty who teach in 10 departments and offer over 65 academic programs in education, health and psychology fields.

The Provost will lead the College’s faculty and shape the strategic direction of the academic enterprise across all fields of study. This is an exciting time to join the institution, as a new president assumed leadership in July 2018 and brings new vision and direction. The Provost will be an integral member of the president’s leadership team and have opportunity to provide guidance and insight about the current and future direction of the College, particularly with regard to faculty development and support, program development and enrollment. The Provost will be a strong voice for the mission of Teachers College and work to further increase the institution’s impact in New York City and beyond. The Provost will oversee and manage the complex academic administration operations of the institution, including enrollment and student affairs.

Teachers College seeks an experienced and visionary academic leader with strong managerial and team building skills, and a record of significant accomplishment. The Provost will be a scholar of distinction in their field with an appreciation for shared governance, a dedication to productive and cooperative collaboration, and a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and active citizenship at the local, national and global level.
