Instructor/Assistant Professor – Interior Design (Eastern Campus)

 

Announcement is hereby made for a 10-month, full-time, tenure track appointment beginning the spring 2019 semester on the Eastern Campus in Riverhead.  Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs. 

 

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.

 

Job Description

The successful candidate will have experience teaching a variety of college-level Interior Design classes, including residential and commercial spaces, mechanical and digital drawing skills, professional practices, and code requirement.  The candidate should possess advanced skills and knowledge in industry standards, in addition to a significant record in professional interior design practice.  The successful candidate will demonstrate an ongoing commitment to excellence in teaching, professional development, and service.  The College seeks faculty  who value the opportunity to form mentoring and advising relationships with our students.  The successful candidate will also demonstrate openness to pedagogical innovation, including, but not limited to, the integration of technology and distance education into the curriculum.  Duties will also include:

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with description published in the College catalog and the approved course outline, incorporating alternative approaches and methods when appropriate and possible.
  • Incorporate an appreciation of diverse lifestyles, cultures and perspectives into courses.
  • Engage in assessment of college-wide learning outcomes and demonstrate the use of the results of these assessments in courses.
  • Actively participate in departmental, campus and College committees/meetings.
  • Participate in academic advisement and curriculum development.
  • Demonstration of scholarly work in the discipline.

 

Qualifications

Required:

Master’s Degree and a minimum of three years college-level teaching experience is required. Applicants should be prepared to submit, prior to interview, a multiple-page PDF document including a portfolio of 12-20 images of professional creative work and 15-20 images of student work, all to include descriptions.  A link to a live online portfolio may also be submitted.

 

Preferred:

Professional license or certification in Interior Design is preferred.

The exact salary will be determined by prior experience and placement on the salary scale negotiated by the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College.
