Boston  College,  a  Jesuit,  Catholic  university  in  Chestnut  Hill,  Massachusetts, invites nominations, inquiries, and applications for the position of Dean, Woods College of Advancing Studies (WCAS). This is an exciting opportunity to lead an established school of advancing studies into a new era of programing and service. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to strengthen the vision and mission of the Woods College, a strong record of service, experience developing significant revenue-generating programs in an academic or business setting, and extensive skill and experience in technology and new delivery methods.  Candidates will bring a deep understanding of higher education and industry market needs, international sensitivity, and an innovative, collaborative leadership style consistent with the Jesuit, Catholic dimensions of the mission and goals of Boston College and WCAS.

Reporting to the Provost, the new Dean will lead a school committed to building on existing strengths and enhance efforts regarding creative programming, revenue generation, and service to nontraditional students.  The Dean will manage the operations of the Woods College and assist and encourage faculty and staff to prepare students for the workplace.  This individual will also be responsible for articulating the College’s vision, strategy, and direction internally and externally, particularly to prospective students and industry leaders and organizations. 

The new Dean will lead Woods College in articulating its mission, vision, and identity within Boston College and the communities it serves, locally, nationally, and globally.  The Dean will assess the College’s current programming and the higher education marketplace to guide the strategy of Woods’s future.  The new Dean will be highly skilled and experienced in technology and program delivery, and will investigate new forms of online and hybrid technology. The Dean will examine new ways that Woods College can serve the Boston College community, collaborate with the University’s other schools and colleges, and function as an incubator for innovative ideas from across the institution.  The Dean will explore the ability for Woods College to balance revenue creation for the University while remaining accessible to the students it serves.  This individual will serve as a spokesperson for Woods College, and increase its visibility within Boston College, regionally, and globally.

Woods College began offering undergraduate classes in the late afternoon or evening in 1929. Today, it seeks to foster an educational experience that is flexible, useful, and innovative, and to enable nontraditional students to achieve their educational goals amidst many other demands.  Many WCAS alumni have gone on to successful professional lives in the fields of education, health services, banking, higher education, securities investment, finance, law, state government, technology, and business services.

Woods College offers 14 undergraduate majors, 11 graduate degree programs, certificate programs, non-degree study, 68 hybrid courses, and 96 fully online courses. With an enrollment of 423 undergraduates and 317 graduate students, WCAS is a diverse, adult, and global community of learners. Thirty-nine percent of the student body identifies as AHANA, and 188 international students study in the master’s programs.
