Assistant Professor - Higher Education

Summary of Position           

We are searching for an outstanding teacher and scholar to fill a tenure-track faculty position (Assistant Professor) in Higher Education within the Department of Educational Leadership, beginning August 2019.

Primary responsibilities for this position include:

•             Developing and teaching campus-based and web-enhanced hybrid courses or fully online courses in a dynamic graduate program focusing on higher education/student affairs

•             Assisting in the ongoing development of growing M.Ed. and Ed.D. programs in higher education, including a newly-developed certificate in community college leadership

•             Advising students through completion of internships, culminating projects, and/or dissertations

•             Maintaining an active scholarship agenda focused on addressing issues in two- and/or four-year institutions in one or more of the following areas: college student development, social justice and inclusion, historical or social foundations, athletics

 

Minimum Requirements     

Doctorate in appropriate field or ABD with degree in hand by July 31, 2019

Preferred Qualifications     

Preference will be given to those candidates who have a demonstrated potential for scholarly productivity, evidence of successful college-level teaching, and at least 5 years of experience working in the field.

The Department of Educational Leadership is committed to the preparation, support, and collaboration with educators who seek or hold leadership positions in schools, school districts, boards, state and federal departments or agencies, or institutions of higher education. The department hosts the Watson College of Education’s Master in School Administration program (MSA), the Master in Higher Education (M.Ed. HE) program, the Master in Curriculum, Instruction and Supervision program (M.Ed. in CIS), the undergraduate Leadership Studies Minor (LED) and the Ed.D. in Educational Leadership program.

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a growing

college with over 60 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate

and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary,

Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional

Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and

doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership. It offers

several international study programs and maintains partnerships with

numerous school districts, community colleges, and colleges/universities in

the region.
