Marietta College

Vice President for Enrollment Management

Marietta College, a private liberal arts college in Marietta, Ohio, invites applications, nominations, and expressions of interest for the position of Vice President for Enrollment Management.

Founded in 1797 as Muskingum Academy, the first preparatory school in the Northwest Territory and the birthplace of higher education in Ohio, Marietta was chartered as a college in 1835.  Over its history, it has been ranked consistently among the best liberal arts colleges in the Midwest.  In the past few years, it has gained significant momentum under the leadership of its current president, Dr. William Ruud.  Through careful and transparent fiscal planning and the judicious use of resources, the College has successfully addressed a wide range of issues from deferred maintenance to faculty and staff salaries.  What is more, a new strategic plan was developed in 2016 that places enrollment management as the unifying focus, and the College has steadily increased new and transfer student enrollment. But even better things lie ahead.  The College is now in the quiet phase of a major comprehensive capital campaign, and there are a variety of initiatives underway that will not only improve the education it provides its students, but also put Marietta on the cutting edge of best practices in higher education.  The energy and good will this has unleashed among faculty and staff is palpable. This year, the Chronicle of Higher Education recognized Marietta as “A Great College to Work For,” in not one but three categories.

Marietta seeks an energetic, experienced enrollment management professional to continue the enrollment growth the College has witnessed over the past two years.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of Marietta’s leadership team and to work with a college community that is very collegial and student-centered, and eager to work together to help Marietta flourish. At the same time, the new vice president will be expected to be a visible and collegial member of the Marietta College community as well as of the wider community of Marietta, Ohio and the Mid-Ohio Valley. The new vice president will also be expected to work closely with the communications and brand management staff to increase awareness of the College and expand its social media presence.  NCAA Division III athletic recruiting is an important part of admissions at Marietta College.  The new vice president will be expected to understand athletic recruiting and work well with the athletic staff.  Marietta has a strong and dedicated enrollment management staff, and the new vice president will be expected to provide them with effective leadership, including mentorship, staff training, and professional development.

The ideal candidate for this opportunity will:

• Have a record of success in enrollment management,

• Have held progressively more responsible positions up to the level of director of admissions,

• Have experience in a residential liberal arts college and the ability to articulate its value, and

• Have the ability to work collaboratively with all members of the college community, and have high integrity.

For fullest consideration, applications should be received by November 19, 2018.
