Chief Human Resources Officer

The Catholic University of America (CUA) seeks an energetic and collaborative business partner to be the next Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Treasurer and serving on the Executive Committee of the Administrative Council, the successful candidate will have significant management and human resources leadership experiences, along with innovative ideas to streamline and promote HR best practices for the university, within an engaged and inspired community, minutes from the heart of Washington D.C.

This is an exciting and significant opportunity for the new CHRO as the leadership is implementing an updated Strategic Plan and Campus Framework Plan that outline specific goals to build upon tradition and excellence and chart a course for the future. Among the focuses are academic renewal which includes reorganization of departments, opening a new school of business, and a recommitment to the arts.

 

The successful candidate will be innovative, proactive, and collaborative with excellent strategic, leadership, and team-building skills and will have demonstrated success and relevant experience at a complex and dynamic organization.

 

The CHRO will have the following experiences, capabilities, and attributes:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in human resources management, organizational development, employee relations, compensation, benefits and employee development, a commitment to diversity and inclusion, a record of success in managing cultural and organizational change, and talent management;
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of compensation; total rewards management, compensation surveys, wage and hour law, labor law, Title IX and legal compliance, benefits, EEO/AA guidelines, HR information systems, awareness programs, and employee relations;
  • Experience in labor negotiations, hearing of grievances, mediation and/or arbitration; thoughtful and considered approach to contract negotiation;
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including conflict resolution and presentation skills;
  • An ability to foster innovative and creative problem solving, strong listening and communication skills, a presence that engenders trust, confidence and respect, and the ability to lead by influence and example;
  • Strong technical skills including data analysis, financial and budget management and workforce planning;
  • Effective and engaging interpersonal skills to allow for positive communication across all constituent groups of the University; demonstrated leadership/supervisory experience; and the ability to deliver sensitive information tactfully and professionally; and
  • A proactive and dedicated project and people manager with a sense of urgency, and willingness and ability to operationalize a strategic vision and tactical goals.
