The University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-Dearborn), a regional campus of the University of Michigan located in the city of Dearborn, Michigan, seeks an experienced leader to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Natural Sciences within the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters. The Department offers programs in biology, chemistry, and physics, and the interdisciplinary areas of biochemistry, earth science, environmental science, and microbiology. The Chair will work in close partnership with the Dean and the other department chairs during a time of unprecedented growth within the University.

The College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters and the Department of Natural Sciences welcome candidates with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and service in addition to a record of scholarly distinction who will ensure that the Department, its faculty, and students continue to flourish. The Chair will report directly to the Dean and collaborate with colleagues within the Department and across the College to: develop and communicate a strategic vision for the Department; serve as an advocate for the Department and elevate its stature by encouraging the development of productive programmatic partnerships across disciplines within the Department and across the College and University; position the Department for future success by mentoring and supporting faculty; and enrich an already strong undergraduate student experience. The successful candidate will be an intellectual leader and a distinguished teacher, scholar, and innovator who brings a passion for students, research and service, and will demonstrate effective interpersonal and managerial skills and a commitment to undergraduate education by maintaining a high-quality learning environment for students. A PhD in a relevant field is required.
