Professional Assistant I – Continuing Education Department (Grant-Funded Position)
<p>Announcement is hereby made for a 12-month Professional Assistant 1 position that is grant-funded. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs.</p> <p> </p> <p>This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College. This position is funded by a New York State grant. In a grant-funded position, the successful candidate will be employed for periods concurrent with the grant award; however such employment may be terminated at any time. This is a grant-funded position with the possibility of yearly extensions through June 30, 2020. Please see the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement for complete details with regard to grant-funded positions.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong><u>Job Description:</u></strong></p> <p>The Professional Assistant 1 for Continuing Education reports to the College Assistant Dean for Continuing Education. The PA1 will be working in a team environment to provide assistance in the recruitment, enrollment and retention of Science and Technology Entry Level Program (STEP) and Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) students. Specifically, the successful candidate will have specialized knowledge of STEP and CSTEP grant programs, a strong background in assisting students performing original STEM research, five years of experience mentoring underrepresented middle/high school and college students, and will:</p> <p> </p> <ol> <li>Coordinate, and participate in the development of the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), and the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) programs;</li> <li>Supervise clerical, and other STEP office staff;</li> <li>Assist in the development and implementation of strategies for recruitment and enrollment for new students and retention of continuing students;</li> <li>Assist in periodic program staff meetings;</li> <li>Assist in the development and maintenance of program operating budgets;</li> <li>Work closely with school districts, collaborating Suffolk County Community College departments and offices, collaborating colleges and universities and Brookhaven National Laboratory and other STEM institutions to deliver collaborative program services;</li> <li>Deliver research and work closely with business and industry partners to develop, implement and deliver science research and workforce-related programming, such as internships and job-shadowing experiences;</li> <li>Assist with the admittance and enrollment of pre-college program students to Suffolk County Community College and the transfer of CSTEP students to four-year schools;</li> <li>Assist with the assessment of the effectiveness of programmatic goals and staff involvement in accordance with program guidelines and expected outcome measures;</li> <li>Prepare comprehensive mid-year and final reports for submission to NYSED agencies;</li> <li>Ensure compliance with all program funding and reporting guidelines;</li> <li>Purchase instructional materials and office supplies as required and maintain program budgets;</li> <li>Represent STEP and CSTEP at local, regional and statewide meetings;</li> <li>Assist in the preparation and submission of RFP's related to STEP and CSTEP; and</li> <li>Undertake other duties as assigned by College Assistant Dean/Pl.</li> </ol> <p> </p> <p><strong><u>Minimum Qualifications:</u></strong></p> <p><strong>Required:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field;</li> <li>Strong background in assisting students performing original STEM research;</li> <li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office; and</li> <li>Minimum of five years mentoring underrepresented middle/high school and college students conducting STEM research.</li> </ul> <p>Preferred:</p> <ul> <li>Minimum five years of scientific research</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p><u>Step 1</u></p> <p>Click on the following link:</p> <p><a href="http://www.sunysuffolk.edu/About/Employment.asp">http://www.sunysuffolk.edu/About/Employment.asp</a></p> <p> </p> <p><u>Step 2</u></p> <p>Select position #18-66 and read the description.</p> <p> </p> <p><u>Step 3</u></p> <p>Click Apply Online to submit resume and cover letter.</p> <p> </p> <p><em>The New York State Retirement and Social Security Law requires retirees of a public pension plan within the State or City of New York to disclose prior public employment and pension plan history for the purpose of establishing a retiree’s eligibility for employment.</em></p> <p> </p> <p>The exact salary will be determined by prior experience and placement on the salary scale negotiated by the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College.</p> <p> </p>
