The University of Toledo invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer for the college and has a direct reporting line to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean provides a clear vision for the college in keeping with accreditation and university standards.

The University of Toledo (UT) is a public research university located in Toledo, Ohio, United States and is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as Doctoral Universities: Higher Research Activity. Founded in 1872 in downtown Toledo as the Toledo University of Arts and Trades, the University became a member of the state university system in 1967. UT is comprised of 13 colleges (Arts and Letters, Business and Innovation, Education, Engineering, Graduate Studies, Health and Human Services, Honors, Law, Medicine and Life Sciences, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and University College). UT enrollment draws from across the U.S. and nearly 80 countries. The university has a vibrant campus life with over 350 student organizations. Its athletic teams, called the Rockets, are members of the Mid-American Conference.

The nationally ranked College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences was the first college established at The University of Toledo. The college’s 114-year history includes a tradition of student-centered instruction and excellence in research and patient care. The mission of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is to educate students to become pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists while advancing pharmaceutical knowledge. The University of Toledo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences features state-of-the-art facilities that allow students to gain real-time experience in pharmacy and pharmaceutical research. Faculty members are recognized authorities in their areas of specialization, conducting research that contributes to the development of new treatments, practices, and innovations. In fall 2010, the college expanded to The Frederic and Mary Wolfe Center on the University’s Health Science Campus which has allowed the College to expand its mission in an academic health science community. The College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). In addition to the Pharm.D. degree, the College grants the B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences degree in 5 majors, M.S. degrees in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences (3 majors), and Ph.D. degrees in Medicinal Chemistry and Experimental Therapeutics.

The ideal candidate will possess an earned doctoral degree and substantial experience in pharmacy education, with a minimum of three years in an administrative position with duties and responsibilities for academic and fiscal management; experience in mentoring research-active and federally-funded faculty; experience in programs which award undergraduate and doctoral degrees in the pharmaceutical or related sciences; accomplishments meriting tenure at the rank of professor in one of the academic departments of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; a leadership style characterized by flexibility, inclusiveness, integrity, and openness that involves and enables faculty and other stakeholders to share in governance; a commitment to public service and the mission of a public university; the capacity and intent to sustain and enhance the College’s overall reputation; ability to engage in successful fundraising and obtaining external research funding; evidence of supporting the overall well-being and success of students; evidence of taking action to build an organization that values and practices diversity and inclusion, affirmative action, and equal opportunity; the inclination and capability to contribute to the University’s senior academic leadership, including the ability to collaborate with the Provost and deans to enrich the overall academic structure and the national and international reputation of the University of Toledo; and strong listening skills and the ability to learn from others. The ideal candidate should be a licensed pharmacist with an understanding of pharmacy practice; possess previous experience as a department head and/or associate dean; and have experience with recruitment, retention, and enrollment management. In addition, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates whose research focuses on underrepresented populations and/or who have experience mentoring underrepresented minority students.
