Chair- Department of Physics

Position Description

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking an innovative leader to serve as Chair in the Department of Physics.  Research activities in the Department reflect major areas of experimental and theoretical physics, and faculty receive extramural funding from federal and state programs, private foundations and industry.  Applicants for this position must have a distinguished record of scientific achievement, demonstrated leadership skills, and a commitment to the strong educational mission advanced by the Department. Applicants must be committed to the mentorship of students and faculty, and have an informed understanding of key issues affecting faculty recruitment, retention and promotion. The successful candidate is expected to be an active leader and researcher who has a strong vision for the Department and fosters continued growth. The department is especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics (or related area)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Distinguished record of research and teaching
  • Current academic rank of tenured full professor (or equivalent non-US rank)
