Assistant Professor-Finance

The University of Texas at El Paso is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Finance position in the Department of Economics and Finance, starting in Fall 2019, subject to final budget approval. Candidates will have demonstrated potential to publish in the leading finance journals. Candidates should have a high probability of meeting our research requirements for tenure, and should be willing and able from the start to engage in teaching Ph.D. level seminars in finance. The current finance faculty members have published in journals such as JFE, RFS, JAE, JFQA, JFM, JCF, FM, and JBF.

About UTEP:  Having celebrated its Centennial year in 2014, The University of Texas at El Paso is the second oldest academic institution in The University of Texas System. UTEP was founded in 1914 as the Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy. In 1949, the school’s name changed to Texas Western College. In 1967, one year after the University won a historic NCAA basketball championship, Texas Western College became The University of Texas at El Paso.

The Department of Economics and Finance offers classes at all levels and values both high quality research and teaching. The College subscribes to the standard databases (CRSP, Compustat, SDC, etc.) as well as W/R/D/S.

For sports fans, the UTEP Miners offer exciting Division I college athletics at Sun Bowl Stadium, the Don Haskins Center, and Kidd Field. Southwest University Park, located in El Paso’s lively downtown, is home to the El Paso Chihuahuas, the San Diego Padres AAA baseball team.

Requirements:  Qualified candidates must hold or be nearing completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent degree from an accredited university along with potential publication success in top finance journals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are important.

Salary:  Salary is AACSB competitive and negotiable commensurate with experience and qualifications
