Dean, College of Business and Management

The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) invites applications, expressions of interest and nominations as part of their Dean search for the College of Business and Management.

UIS is a premier public university that provides students with a high-quality liberal arts education, exceptional public affairs opportunities and outstanding professional preparation programs. Located in the state capital, UIS is one of three universities of the world-class University of Illinois system and has been ranked by US News & World Report as one of the top 10 regional public universities in the Midwest. UIS is an active member of the Council on Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). UIS has recently launched a strategic planning process, UIS Strategic Compass, to guide the future direction of the University.

The College of Business and Management (CBM) is an AACSB accredited business school with 37 faculty members, approximately 725 undergraduate students and 575 graduate students across five academic departments: accountancy, business administration, economics, management and management information systems. The University of Illinois Springfield’s CBM is proud of its distinguished, diverse, and community-engaged faculty and student body. The College’s curriculum acknowledges the impact of increasing globalization and technological advances in the marketplace and aims to prepare students to compete in this rapidly changing environment.

UIS and the CBM have long been recognized nationally for their accomplished teacher-scholars, innovative teaching and excellence in online education. As a reflection of these hallmarks, with community and University System support, UIS has launched an innovation center to extend that intellectual capital to the central Illinois region. At the core is Innovate Springfield (iSPI), located in downtown Springfield with a focus on business incubation and social entrepreneurship. This center was recently announced as the initial hub of the Discovery Partners Institute-Illinois Innovation Network, connecting area businesses and government agencies with the resources of the University of Illinois throughout the state.

Reporting directly to the Provost, the next Dean of CBM will serve as the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer for the College. The Dean will be a dynamic, collaborative and energetic leader who will be responsible for enhancing and invigorating the academic programs, inspiring faculty, staff and students, as well as engaging the Springfield business community.

The ideal candidate will be a creative, inspiring and energetic leader who can advance the CBM's mission; a skilled administrator who values collaborative governance and student-centeredness; and a visionary who is able to leverage opportunities. The next Dean will have experience in academic department leadership, personnel management, enrollment management, data-driven resource allocation models, faculty development, academic program planning, external constituent stewardship and external funding generation. The successful candidate must hold a terminal degree (Ph.D. or D.B.A. preferred) in their field from an accredited institution and be eligible for the rank of tenured full professor within the College.

Inquiries, nominations and applications are invited. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For fullest consideration, applicant materials should be received by October 31, 2018. Candidates should provide a curriculum vita, a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the Leadership Profile, available at www.wittkieffer.com, and the names and contact information of five references. References will not be contacted without prior knowledge and approval of candidates. These materials should be sent electronically via e-mail to the University of Illinois Springfield's consultants, Mercedes Vance and Robert Luke at UIS-DeanCBM@wittkieffer.com. The consultants can be reached by telephone through Felicia Schoenjohn at 630-575-6175.

UIS is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer with a strong institutional commitment to recruitment and retention of a diverse and inclusive campus community. Women, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
