Extension Educator/Consumer Horticulture

Duties: The Extension Educator/Consumer Horticulture position is responsible for development and implementation of relevant and up-to-date consumer horticulture extension education programs that positively impact Arkansas gardeners, leadership of the existing Master Gardener program, and other activities that strengthen the excellence of local county extension programs in these areas. In addition, this position will exercise effective grantsmanship in support of extension and research efforts. Extensive travel in the state and collaboration with interdisciplinary faculty, county extension agents, nurserymen and volunteers on best horticulture practices. Collaboration with the national network of consumer horticulture specialists and Master Gardener coordinators will also benefit the program.

Required: Master’s degree in horticulture or related field, excellent demonstrated communication skills including writing, demonstrated interpersonal skills, ability to travel extensively.

Preferred: Experience in horticulture extension, consumer horticulture and volunteer management; experience in team collaboration and leadership, grantsmanship, dealing with diverse audiences and stakeholders. Experience in county extension, Master Gardener programs, local consumer horticulture programs – all highly preferred.
