Executive Director of Outreach, Engagement and Inclusion

The smallest member of the State University System, New College of Florida is currently engaged in an ambitious growth plan that will increase its size to 1200 students and 120 faculty members, and allow the college to more fully realize its mission of educating intellectually curious students for lives of great achievement.  The college invites applications for the newly created position of Executive Director of Outreach, Engagement and Inclusion.  The executive director will report directly to the president and serve on the president’s cabinet.

The new position will serve some of the internal functions of a chief diversity office (such as partnering with or consulting on areas of subject matter expertise with campus operations such as Human Resources, Enrollment Management, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, Communications and Marketing, the Campus Police, the New College Foundation), but will also have an outward-facing role facilitating links between campus constituencies and the surrounding community.   The executive director will create and have direct oversight over at least two strategic initiatives, The Center for Local and Global Engagement and the new SACSCOC Quality Enhancement Project on retention, and, depending on skill set, may direct other college operations.

Internally, the executive director will work with the president and other cabinet colleagues to build a diverse, inclusive and vibrant campus community characterized by openness, kindness, and mutual respect.  We seek to create a climate in which individuals of all religions, races, ethnicities, abilities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, political affiliations, economic backgrounds, and every heritage contribute, feel welcome and thrive.  Externally, the executive director will work the president, cabinet colleagues, board members and others to deepen relations with the nearby colleges and universities that comprise the Cross-College Alliance, with local schools, and with local business, research, and arts organizations.

The successful candidate will have a PhD, at least ten years’ experience in higher education in a succession of increasingly responsible positions, and demonstrated, successful experience working with diverse groups to include five years’ experience in planning, organizing and evaluating diversity and inclusion programs in Higher Education. Although classroom teaching is not a primary function of the position, the executive director should have sufficient academic credentials to be cross-appointed as a professor of practice in an appropriate academic division of the college, and to teach when necessary.
