AGB Search is pleased to be assisting Des Moines University (DMU), a well-established graduate health science university, in its search for a new Chairperson of the Department of Family and Internal Medicine.  Located in the vibrant and growing capital city of Iowa, the University enrolls more than 1,700 students in three colleges, offering 8 degree programs in medicine and the health sciences. DMU exceeds all osteopathic and allopathic medical schools as the nation’s top producer of family medicine physicians.

 

The University seeks a highly effective leader who will continue a strong tradition of primary care teaching and clinical practice. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM), the Chairperson of the Department of Family and Internal Medicine is responsible for providing vision for all aspects of the primary care program, including the substantial teaching mission of the department, as well as the administrative, educational, and clinical aspects of managing the on-campus primary care clinic.

 

Candidates must have a D.O. degree, along with certification by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice or the American Board of Family Medicine. In addition, five years of clinical experience in Family Medicine, and three years of experience teaching medical students and/or residents are required.  Further, candidates must possess valid state and federal narcotics licenses or be eligible to gain licensure. Candidates must also hold a license to practice medicine in the State of Iowa or be eligible to gain such a license.
