Director of Legacy Gift Planning

Summary Position     
The Director of Gift Planning will lead and direct UNCW’s planned giving program through the marketing of planned giving opportunities to external prospect constituents, serving as a resource to the other directors of development related to gift planning, and managing a portfolio of major gift prospects. In relation to these duties this position will include coordination of promotional activities (mailings, web presence, events, etc.) to market planned giving opportunities, to serve as a resource to the major gifts team through strategy development related to gift planning concepts, and coordination of planned gift processes and documentation. The Director of Gift Planning also proactively manages a portfolio of assigned prospects and will be expected to discover, cultivate, solicit and steward relationships with major gift prospects. This position will be a team member of the Office of University Advancement. Planned Giving works in partnership with units across campus to secure gifts from donors through various forms of gift planning.

Minimum Requirements
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred, with a minimum of five years of demonstrated successful experience in the design, implementation, and execution of successful fundraising programs or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated track record of public and private development efforts including mastery of the basic principles and techniques of successful fundraising as they pertain to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, group, corporate and foundation prospects, preferably in the non-profit or higher educational sector.
• Experience in a higher education environment preferred.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The division for University Advancement responds to the needs of a variety of external and internal constituents in achieving its primary goals to: 1) Increase private financial support for prioritized university programs and activities, and 2) Improve external relations for the university through effective board management and donor stewardship. The division strives to raise funds, as outlined by the chancellor’s vision statement, from the private sector to further the university mission of pursuing the resources that will enable our faculty and students to excel and become intensely regionally engaged. In doing so, the division plans strategically to facilitate the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of all constituencies, and seeks to positively promote the university. The division’s fundraising efforts are enhanced by effective partnerships with all components of the campus community as well as external audiences including alumni, parents, corporations, foundations, legislators, volunteer board members and friends. Development programs include major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations, annual giving, UNCW constituent liaison and special projects. Prospect Management and Research, Advancement Services, and External and Donor Relations are support services for the fundraising activities of the division.
