Supervisor, Electrical Trades

General Purpose:  The Electrical Supervisor will exercise independent judgment and initiative in managing the operations and maintenance of the University electrical systems. Directs the day-to-day operations of the electrical shop providing maintenance, repair, and general services to the Yale community. Manages and coordinates activities of electricians and other trades engaged in the operation, maintenance, and repairs of University building and related facilities. Plans and schedules work for assigned staff, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing levels.

Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree. Seven years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and trades-related experience.

Preferred Licenses or Certification: E1 license, or an equivalent license from another state with the ability to obtain the E1 license in CT within 90 days of start date.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability and understanding of building M/E/P systems with specialty in electrical systems and an E1 license. Comprehensive knowledge of building codes and regulations. Knowledge of construction and maintenance practices.
  • Well developed supervisory skills including ability with progressive discipline and performance feedback with proven ability to direct customer focused teams providing maintenance services.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines to effectively review project requirements, determine the deployment of supervision and trades people, work methods and procedures, tools, equipment, and other materials. Ability to make rapid and appropriate judgments during emergency situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively relate to all parties involved in the design, construction, and maintenance fields. Proven ability to maintain, manage and prepare scheduling, word processing, payroll spreadsheet documents and reports, and to present reporting materials.
