Oregon State University (OSU or the University), an internationally recognized, innovative, and mission- driven land-grant and research university, seeks a highly motivated, collaborative, innovative, and strategic leader to serve as Associate Vice President for Finance and Controller (AVP&C). The Division of Finance and Administration is undergoing significant change with a renewed focus on customer service, fiscal accountability, and consultative decision-making for the University. The AVP&C will be a key member of the division and will have considerable independence to make high level decisions on a broad and complex range of university-wide fiscal policies, procedures and operations that will have a significant impact on the strategic plans and operations of the University. The AVP&C will report to the Vice President of Finance and Administration and is the University’s principle accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, and tax executive. As an essential advisor to senior leadership, the AVP&C will strengthen collaboration and relationships across the University to better support the mission and position the University for success.

It is an exciting time to join OSU. The University continues to climb the excellence ladder, keeping a clear focus on valuing student success, advancing and disseminating knowledge, and serving the people and the state of Oregon. With campuses in Corvallis, Bend, and Newport, and an emerging presence in Portland, OSU remains one of only two universities in the country to hold the Land, Sea, Space and Sun Grant designations and is the state’s only institution to hold both the Carnegie Foundation’s top designation for research institutions and its prestigious Community Engagement classification. The University is now in the third phase of its strategic plan and continues to make measurable progress in all areas, including the growth and diversification of faculty and high-achieving students and creation of a more inclusive and welcoming community. Research grants and expenditures have continued to increase dramatically, and the faculty has outpaced peer institutions for prestigious grants and partnerships, while maintaining deep commitments to engaged learning and public service. OSU has also successfully increased revenue from private fundraising, corporate partnerships, research grants and technology transfers culminating in the university’s first ever comprehensive fundraising campaign, which exceeded its $1 billion goal nearly a year ahead of schedule. Plans for a second and more ambitious fundraising campaign are underway. These successes have fueled OSU’s rise as a land-grant university for the 21st century.

The successful candidate will have the technical skills, leadership and managerial abilities to lead a large and complex office with integrity and transparency, nurture the development of a high performance work team, provide sound advice and counsel to the OSU leadership team, work collaboratively across the institution, ensure fiscal integrity, and position OSU as a model for excellence. A bachelor’s degree is required and a CPA certification and an MBA or other advanced degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field are highly preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of eight (8) years of experience as a senior level manager, including direct responsibility for financial services and accounting operations.
