Search for the Provost

Salt Lake City, Utah

Westminster College, a comprehensive private liberal arts college in Salt Lake City, Utah serving students for nearly 150 years, is seeking a new Provost. The provost will join Westminster at a transformative time, working closely with the new president, Bethami (Beth) Dobkin, to strategically align Westminster’s academic and student experience with the college’s mission.  This is an opportunity to partner with an ambitious and thoughtful new leader, and to work in concert with the college community to reimagine and strengthen the academic enterprise in a first-of-its-kind institution. Westminster is the only private liberal arts institution in the state, in a thriving multicultural city with an increasingly diverse demographic profile. Building on the College’s many successes and institutional assets, including high quality educational programs, excellent students, a strong alumni and donor base, proximity to boundless recreational opportunities, and an incredibly talented faculty and staff, the Provost will have the opportunity to further shape and enhance Westminster for years to come.

Founded in 1875, Westminster was originally established as a preparatory school and became a four-year liberal arts institution in 1949. Over the last 30 years, it has added professional programs in business, nursing and health sciences, and education. The College has a strong academic reputation, deep community and alumni support, and a legacy of providing a student-centered, liberal arts and professional education that transforms lives. It offers an intimate college experience to approximately 2,570 students, including 2,030 undergraduates and 540 graduates.

As the chief academic officer, the provost will be a champion for academic excellence and student success, and will craft and guide collaborative, inclusive, and financially sustainable pathways for the college moving forward.  In doing so, the provost will be asked to address a key set of opportunities as follows:

  • Be a strategic thought partner to the new president in shaping the college’s vision for the future;
  • Create a vision around academic excellence and student success;
  • Model collaborative, effective leadership across the institution;
  • Demonstrate leadership and practices reflective of diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Build academic infrastructure to optimize the student experience; and
  • Possess strong financial acumen with an eye toward strategic budget management and resource generation.
