Associate Provost for International Initiatives

Georgia State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Provost for International Initiatives (APII). The APII will serve as the Senior International Officer of the University and provide leadership in shaping and carrying out the university's ambitious international agenda and approach for campus globalization.

 

The Associate Provost for International Initiatives (APII) reports to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and provides leadership to increase Georgia State’s global impact by developing new programs, policies, and practices that support and strengthen the university's international programs and activities. The APII serves as the chief advocate internally to university leadership, and externally to foundations, government agencies, and others, for increased support and the necessary resource allocation for international faculty ventures and partnerships as well as increased student engagement. 

 

The university seeks a creative, entrepreneurial, and broadly experienced leader to oversee a dedicated professional staff, build on successes to date, and expand Georgia State’s global engagement and visibility.  The university is in the process of launching a new strategic plan for the coming decade, and the APII will be in the position to shape how international engagement and globalization will support and address the primary pillars of that plan.

 

The successful candidate will possess a terminal degree or its equivalent with a preference for an individual who has a demonstrated record of scholarship; success working across an institution to develop and build innovative programs to anticipate and address the changing needs of a diverse international community; outstanding strategic management and planning skills, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a decentralized and non-hierarchical environment; excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to serve as the university's representative and spokesperson in a variety of venues; excellent intercultural communications skills and the ability to work within diverse cultural contexts; significant experience with and understanding of academic administration, finances, and processes; skill in synthesizing, blending, and balancing competing ideas and goals to arrive at a common purpose and, demonstrated success in seeking external funding to support the mission of a unit.
