NU-Q is a globally embedded institution and one of three campuses of Northwestern University (Chicago, Doha, Evanston) as well as one of several institutions in the Qatar Foundation's Education City in Doha, Qatar. Its mission is to mentor and educate students to become creative, ethical, and impactful communicators across cultural and national boundaries. Located at the confluence of continents, NU-Q is a diverse global community with approximately 500 students from 60 countries and offers a world-class program, housed in a state-of-the-art building, in media education with degree programs in journalism and in communication built on a strong foundation of liberal arts.

This year's 113 graduates represent 30 countries with nearly half of the group Qatari, making it the largest and most diverse graduating class to date. Together, the students speak a total of 12 languages, and more than 75 percent are women. Students engage closely with NU-Q faculty, a diverse and distinguished mix of scholars and practitioners who are deeply committed to NU-Q's teaching, research, and cultural exchange mission.

Collaborating closely with academic leaders and faculty in Doha as well as in Evanston, the new assistant dean will serve as a trusted advisor to Dean Marwan Kraidy as he and the leadership team continue to advance NU-Q, its academic mission and the important role it plays in the continued development and transformation of Qatar and the Global South.

They will provide leadership for an agile office responsible for all external and internal communications while also providing strategies and operational effectiveness for the division's growth and innovation. They will act as the face and voice of NU-Q, liaising with the Qatar Foundation, external partners, the city of Doha, the Global South and the world.

At the minimum, the next assistant dean will have an earned bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired. They will have a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in media or journalism, communications, marketing, external relations, and/or public affairs in diverse educational, research, non-profit or media institutions with a global component. Other preferred qualifications include a knowledge of Arabic (strongly preferred), familiarity with the Global South, and experience in US higher education.
