Wayne State University seeks a high energy, visionary, mission-focused business leader to become its next Senior Associate Vice President of Finance and Deputy Chief Financial Officer (SAVP). The SAVP will be a highly visible and influential leader on the campus, and a senior member of the central Finance and Business Operations division. The SAVP will provide leadership and oversight for Budget and Planning; the Controller’s Office; Accounts Receivable; and Investments, Treasury and Debt. The SAVP will lead a transformative change toward long-term financial stability and effective stewardship of university resources by leveraging new systems, business processes and tools with the implementation of a new Responsibility Center Management (RCM) budget model, a new budget system, and transition to an all-funds budget.

The desired candidates will have:

  • A Master’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related fields; or CPA/other relevant professional certifications;
  • 10 + years progressively responsible leadership experience in one or more of the following areas: treasury operations, financial operations, or strategic budget and resource management;
  • Demonstrated capability working in large, complex, environments, leading and facilitating large-scale change in process, systems and policy;
  • Experience with ERP financial systems and implementations; change management experience; and ability to influence, persuade and educate across multiple stakeholder groups;
  • Success and experience in attracting, developing and mentoring a team of high-performing professionals; strength in motivating teams in continuous improvement and best practices;
  • Ability to present and communicate a range of financial and budget information effectively at all levels, including executive and board level audiences;
  • High level of ethics and earned trust among colleagues; ability to advise on and operationalize decisions that support a long-term university strategy;
  • An ability to find solutions and possibilities coupled with solid business judgment;
  • Higher education industry experience and knowledge and experience with GASB and FASB accounting standards and practices is preferred.
