FULL-TIME TENURE TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF RECREATION, PARKS, AND TOURISM WITH EMPHASIS IN TOURIS

The Recreation, Parks and Tourism Department (RCPT) at Radford University announces a Full-Time Tenure Track position beginning in Fall 2018.

The RCPT Department seeks an individual with the ability to teach in both the core curriculum as well as the Tourism and Special Events concentration while maintaining an active research agenda.  The applicant is expected to teach core classes such as but not limited to Introduction to Recreation, Parks & Tourism; Research and Technology Applications; and Recreation Administration. The ability to teach and develop new classes in the Tourism and Special Events concentration is also essential.  These courses may include Tourism and Event Marketing, Experiential Tourism, Special Events, and other courses within the candidate’s interest and program scope.  Supervision of internships as well as mentoring student research may be an expectation. Willingness to learn or ability to teach in an online fashion is also required. The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism or a closely [G13] related field.  Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the university level is highly preferred.  This individual may also be required to teach summer school classes.  Summer teaching is separate from the 9-month contract.

This candidate will be expected to advise and mentor students and to carry an appropriate committee load to share in faculty governance. They must have expertise, skills, and training, to be able to foster relationships between the community and students to help promote, design, and implement special events. The candidate must have the skillset or the potential to conduct independent research, write refereed papers, presentations, and grants.  The ability to foster fruitful working relationships with industry partners and the desire to develop a tourism related certificate program is also very important. Excellent communication skills, collegiality, and collaboration skills are highly desireable.  The successful candidate should also be able and willing to work with local and regional communities and agencies to promote tourism, community development, and special events. Other duties may be assigned by the department chair as necessary and appropriate.
