Trocaire College, a private, career-oriented Catholic college, founded by and in the traditions of the Sisters of Mercy, is accepting nominations and applications for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA). Trocaire serves traditional and non-traditional students who are primarily low to median-income, head-of-household, and are seeking a transformative education to grow personally in a nurturing community, while preparing them for well-paying careers locally. With a focus on healthcare, business and technology, Trocaire transforms individuals and communities by addressing both students’ and workforce needs.

 

The College seeks an experienced academic leader who is committed to student success, will inspire the faculty and staff, and will work with the President and leadership to fulfill the College’s mission, strategic plan and institutional goals. Reporting to the President, the VPAA is the Chief Academic Officer of the College, serves as a member of the President’s Council and has responsibility for overseeing all academic matters including leadership of the faculty and academic staff, faculty and academic staff hires, the academic budget, all curricular issues including academic program development, and the academic and student support services of the College.  The new VPAA will be expected to take office on or around August 2018.

 

The Vice President of Academic Affairs will:

  • Advise the President on all academic matters
  • Work with the President and his Senior Leadership Team in the overall coordination and leadership of the College
  • Provide day to day supervision of Dean and Program Directors
  • Provide the vision for the direction, revision, and creation of academic programs of high quality offered in a variety of formats;
  • Oversee the implementation of academic strategic planning
  • Coordinate facilities planning for Academic Affairs
  • Establish guidelines for and oversee curriculum planning and development
  • Work closely with Enrollment Management to support the recruitment of students
  • Coordinate with Student Affairs to oversee academic advising and other student retention strategies in Academic Affairs
  • Coordinate the recruiting, hiring, evaluation and professional development of all full-time and part-time faculty, academic administrators, and staff in academic affairs and make recommendations about faculty promotion to the President
  • Oversee the budget of all departments in area of responsibility
  • Demonstrate a consistent commitment to the College mission and the Mercy values

 

The College seeks an experienced leader who has:

  • Outstanding academic leadership credentials, and a broad base of experience with both traditional and non-traditional programs, preferably both in the liberal arts and health sciences
  • The ability to communicate clearly to all constituencies inside and outside of the college
  • vision for the cultivation of programs in liberal arts and health professional studies in the 21st century, including recruitment and marketing
  • The ability to provide leadership in integrating technology into the educational process
  • A demonstrated ability to effect change, empower people, and successfully manage challenge and conflict
  • A history of strong strategic planning and decision-making skills in an academic setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including willingness to communicate openly and frequently with all constituents
  • Demonstrated ability to set expectations and hold people accountable for excellent performance in a fast-paced environment
  • Integrity, humility, and excellent social and interpersonal skills
  • Operational and strategic academic and financial planning experience
  • An understanding of and strong commitment to catholic higher education

 

Trocaire College seeks an individual with an earned doctorate from an accredited college or university; proven higher education administrative leadership experience; a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship and collegial service; a practical and intellectual commitment to higher education; experience in faculty governance (collective bargaining experience a plus), leadership, mentoring, and faculty development; and a commitment to interact effectively with other administrators, staff, peers, faculty, students and the public. The ideal candidate has impeccable integrity, exemplary oral and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and an understanding of and a strong commitment to the values and passion of the College’s Catholic and Mercy mission.

Trocaire College, founded in 1958 by the Sisters of Mercy, is a private Catholic college located in Buffalo, New York. The College offers associate’s and bachelor's degree programs as well as one-year certificate programs and workforce development training in healthcare, business, hospitality and technology. Trocaire's main campus is located in the City of Buffalo, and has an extension site located in Williamsville, New York. The College enrolls approximately 1,300 students, ranging in age from 17-59 years old, who commute from throughout Western New York.
