Vice President of Human Resources

Polk State College invites applications for the position of Vice President of Human Resources (VPHR). This new position reflects the College’s substantial interest in building a robust Human Resources Department that embraces change and innovation that support a superb place to work. This position reports directly to the President of Polk State College and is a member of the President’s Leadership Team.

Polk State College, located in Central Florida, is part of the Florida College System that consists of 28 state colleges. The College is a multi-campus institution with a total of seven locations across Polk County including three collegiate high schools. Polk State is a leader with innovative programs and outstanding faculty and staff. Polk State is proud to be Polk County’s largest institution of higher education, serving nearly 13,000 degree-seeking students and more than 9,000 individuals in workforce training each year. This position serves not only as the senior human resources officer for Polk State, but also as a trusted advisor, strategic business partner, and advocate for all employees. In this role and working hand-in-hand with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the VPHR will recommend and help make important institutional decisions that impact all employees and the Polk State community. The VPHR will be a strategic thinker, an excellent communicator, and an exceptional listener, who will create and effect change and serve as the face of the Office of Human Resources. They will be in a key position to oversee and influence the people, policies, practices, and procedures of Polk State, and further enhance the College community.

There is a strong desire to attract a VPHR who views human resources as a strategic asset, and who understands the importance of a well-functioning human resources team that is defined by its commitment to performance excellence, and effective and responsive customer service. The VPHR will possess a broad perspective and in[1]depth knowledge of effective human resource frameworks (i.e., policies, practices, and procedures) and legal guidelines and requirements, across different employee groups, including: faculty, administrative staff, and other employees. The VPHR will consider how best to integrate human resources with academic affairs and the other areas of Polk State, and the effective and increased use of available human resources software technology, such as Banner or Peoplesoft, in a time of limited financial resources.
