Reporting to the President, the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President for Business & Financial Affairs (CFO) serves as a key member of Spelman’s senior leadership team. In addition to providing ongoing tactical and strategic financial leadership, the CFO will serve as a key advisor to the Finance & Administration Committee and the Audit, Compliance & Risk Committee of the Board of Trustees. This individual will oversee budgeting, financial planning and policies, accounting practices and procedures, and cash management functions. Additionally, the CFO is responsible for the College’s relationships with lending institutions and the external financial community. The CFO also provides broader leadership and managerial oversight for key administrative and auxiliary functions.
The optimal candidate should have a minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible leadership experience in finance and administration. Higher education experience, particularly at a liberal arts institution, is preferred but not required. Strong team management capabilities as well as excellent communication skills will be critical. A passion for and commitment to the unique mission of Spelman will be essential. An MBA or other relevant graduate degree is preferred.
