The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS with a staff of 300, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services (MCAPS) department of The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) seeks two licensed, resilient, and caring mental health professionals for the dynamic and rewarding position of Crisis Therapist and Care Manager. These are regular, ongoing positions that work 10 months each year supporting the students of the seven member institutions of The Claremont Colleges (TCC).

The Crisis Therapist and Care Manager works exclusively with students of The Claremont Colleges (TCC) that present during business hours using the crisis appointment system. These students can be self-referred or referred by a college official, professor or friend. This role is also involved with coordinating follow up care for students that use the crisis system. The therapist will also provide outreach, training, and psycho-education around issues of prevention and crisis management to the college community. Specific duties include:

Provide Crisis/On-Call Counseling
  • Assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning/recommendations of students using crisis appointments (50% or less of total time each week is dedicated to crisis coverage shifts)
  • Follow-up individual counseling and consultation appointments, when appropriate
  • Emergency Intervention (hospitalization and follow-up, consulting with the Dean of Students staff and family as needed
  • Check ProtoCall (after-hours on-call service) logs daily and follow-up with students who called after-hours
  • Log ProtoCall numbers for reports
  • Provide consultation to staff, faculty, and community members
  • Post-vention support in case of death on campus or campus emergency
  • Conduct Threat Assessment interviews when necessary


Case Management Coordination of Care (these duties shared between Crisis Therapists and Case Manager)
  • Respond to on-line student requests for referrals and insurance waivers
  • Respond to student requests for referrals (in-person appointments and other means)
  • Provide referrals and community resources to students
  • Follow-up of students referred out to community providers
  • Hospitalization follow-up and after care
  • Maintain a Community Referral list
  • Connect with off campus providers and answer their questions as needed
  • Coordinate and plan annual Meet and Greet for off campus providers
  • Meet with the MCAPS part-time case manager weekly


Re-entry Interviews
  • See students for an intake/clinical assessment after returning to campus from a leave and/or returning from the hospital
  • Make recommendations for on-going care and academic support
  • Provide follow-up care referrals, assessing effectiveness and compliance with referrals


On-Call weekly Rotation
  • Share in weekly on-call rotation with staff (backup phone coverage 2-3 weeks of each academic year)


Provide workshops/education and crisis information to TCC community
  • Engage in trainings and/or workshops around the issue of crisis protocol
  • Engage in training workshops for student leaders/organizations
  • Serve as emergency liaison
  • Conduct prevention and psycho-educational programming /outreach
  • Maintain and enhance relationship with Campus Safety officers and staff by providing training and keeping communication open


Administrative Responsibilities
  • Attend weekly disposition meetings
  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings
  • Attend bi-weekly supervision of supervision meetings (if supervising)
  • Attend weekly case review team meetings
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and in-service training
  • Participate in the TCC Case Managers Working Group
  • Work with Titanium, generate crisis numbers reports
  • Participate in the TCC Threat assessment team
  • Take part in committee work as arises


Work Schedule : This is a regular, ongoing, full-time position that works ten months per year (August through May) each year. The regular hours for this exempt position are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Holiday, weekend, and evening work hours may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit. This department has an adjusted holiday schedule in which certain holidays are worked due to students being on campus.

Pay : The monthly salary for this position is commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position.

You have exceptional interpersonal and critical thinking skills and the ability to gain the trust and respect of college aged clients. You work well independently as well as part of a complex collaborative team. You are compassionate, approachable, mature, resilient, knowledgeable in managing stress and self-care, and are able to maintain your composure in unexpected and difficult situations. In addition, you have:
  • Proven ability to manage the fluctuation of clinical caseload and maintain appropriate records in a timely manner.
  • Sensitivity to and appreciation for cultural, religious, ethnic, and lifestyle diversity.
  • The ability to work within a culturally diverse population while being aware of issues of difference, diversity, and social justice
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Understanding of and/or experiences in residential, liberal arts college environment.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies for mental health work.
  • The ability to work with an Electronic Health Records System for Client notes and scheduling


Education : You are a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW) with the corresponding degree.

Experience : You must have the following experience:
  • At least two (2) years working in a college or university counseling center;
  • Clinical diagnosis and therapy;
  • Working clinically with college age clients and in crisis situations (e.g., hospitalizations, suicidality, psychosis, eating disorders, academic management, working in a high demand environment etc.);
  • Assessment, diagnosis, and implementation of interventions for depression, anxiety, alcohol/drugs abuse and developmental concerns frequently faced by college-aged students; and
  • Working with a culturally diverse population.
